He left Yemen for France when the war broke out and was listed as one of the traitors whose properties were confiscated.\r\nHe has published more than ten books, including Ta'm Aswad\u2026R\u0101\u2019ihah sawd\u0101\u2019 (Black Taste, Black Smell), Dar Saqi: Beirut, 2008; Al-Yah\u016bd\u012b al-H\u0101l\u012b (The Handsome Jew), Dar Saqi: Beirut, 2009; Hurmah, Dar Saqi: Beirut, 2012; Bukh\u016br \u2018Adan\u012b (Adeni Incense), Dar Saqi: Beirut, 2014; Blad al-Qaid (The Leader\u2019s Country), Al-Mutawassit: Milan, 2019.\r\nTwo of his novels - Black Taste, Black Smell, and The Handsome Jew - were longlisted for the International Prize for Arabic Fiction. Femme interdite (2015), the French translation of his novel Hurma, by Khaled Osman and Ola Mehanna, won the Prix de la Litt\u00e9rature Arabe in 2015.
